Scary weather and tacos!
Chase Stormdog eats a taco while safe in his shelter.
Do you like tacos? I do!
Think about gathering the ingredients for a taco. You need taco shells, cheese, hamburger, tomatoes, lettuce, and onion, right? Y
You can compare gathering taco ingredients like the sky is gathering the ingredients for a thunderstorm! The ingredients for a thunderstorm are moist air, warm air at the surface and cool air up high, and a trigger or nudge that pushes that warm air up. When the atmosphere is gathering these ingredients, you will see a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Watch issued by the NOAA Storm Prediction Center.
If you or an adult gets hears about a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warning, it is time to take your taco and find a safe sturdy place to eat it! Warnings are issued by local NOAA National Weather Service Offices. Click here to find yours by clicking on the county you live in. If you don’t know your county, ask an adult for help!
How can you find out if you are in a watch or warning? Check the NOAA Storm Prediction Center for Watches.
You can learn about Apps on smart phones that can be set to alert you if you are in an area of risk. If you don’t have a phone, you probably know an adult who does! Ask them to check their weather app.
Today the weather watchers are showing a HIGH risk. That doesn’t happen very often. So pay attention to your alerts and have a plan to get to shelter!
